WHEN YOU ARE CALLED TO PROPHETIC PRAISE & WORSHIP MINISTRY

By Alma M. Perry

"All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God,"I Chronicles 25:6a.

“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but holy men of God spake as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost,” II Peter 1:21.

A prophetic praise and worship ministry team is a group of individuals who are called forth by God before the foundation of the earth to be a part of an eternal spiritual and heavenly ministry, a ministry that even in eternity you will continue to function in. We do have eternal ministry before God even as the Lord promised David an eternal throne.

There are those who have been called by God to sing and play on instrument what they hear in their spirit from the throne of God. This calling is not a happenstance or coincidence because you have seen someone else flow in this realm. The very fact that you have a desire to play an instrument and sing was birthed in your heart from the heart of God. In His divine wisdom by the Holy Spirit, He has sovereignly led you across the path or brought across your path those who live and flow out of this higher realm of prophetic praise and worship.

The word "prophet" or "prophesy" in the Hebrew is the word "naba" meaning to prophesy, speak or sing by inspiration in prediction. In the realm and ministry of prophetic song we “sing” by inspiration of the Holy Spirit what we hear. This ministry is called the “Psalmist Ministry.” “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but holy men of God spake as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost,” II Peter 1:21. There are many aspects of praise and worship in the Church, but the highest is prophetic praise and worship. Why? Because it is supernatural, and spontaneous in nature coming directly from the Spirit of God and not something that has been pre-planned coming from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit through the soul of man, under a lesser anointing.

In the realm of the soul men choose under a lower level of anointing what they like to hear in song and feel that it will be a blessing to God’s people, is a totally different realm from the “prophetic realm” where the Holy Spirit spontaneously chooses the songs, or with a new song He will inspire the individual with the words and melody. In His choosing there will be manifestation of the manifest presence of God that will bring brokeness and repentence, a divine intervention in the midst of God’s people that a spontaneous change of life will occur in the lives of those who are sitting under this depth of spiritual heavenly praise and worship by the direct power of the Holy Spirit.

"The Nature of life of Those who are Called to this Ministry"

The lifestyle of those who are called to this ministry is one of devotion. There is a hunger, a thirst, a conscious need to stay close to the Lord in prayer and study of the word; a dependency upon Him. We can see this lifestyle in the life of David “a man after God’s own heart,” who scripture states to have been a prophet. It is said of King David in II Samuel 23:1,2; “Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet Psalmist of Israel, said, “The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and His word was in my tongue.” We all know the devotional life of David was of such a pure level of ministry to the Lord that all of heaven strove to listen to the many psalms that went up to God by David on his harp, during his lifetime.

Indeed this is the heart of “prophetic worship” ministering unto God by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit as man on earth functions as the “Bride of Christ” wooing our Lord, giving to Him the sacrifices of praise of our lips. Truly it is the Spirit and the Bride in manifestation saying “Come Lord,” Rev.22:17. And He does come to pour out Himself upon us as we minister not to man but to God and He in turn ministers to man by the power of the Spirit’s presence. Qualification for this ministry is one who spends time before Him in His presence where a “ear to hear” is spiritually developed.

This “hearing ear” is then used in a major way by the Holy Spirit that we may walk in obedience to God in spiritual union by the Holy Spirit, that He may be glorified through our lives; but also in the midst of the congregation of His people to bring man into union with God through song. This of course speaks of the “ministry of the holy Royal priesthood. “Ye also, as lively stones are built up a spiritual house. An holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light, ” I Peter 2:5, 9.

"The Order in the House of God Regarding the Prophetic Ministry of Song"

“And they sang together by course (Or, alternately) in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because He is good, for His mercy endureth forever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. It is not without Divine purpose, therefore, that the ministry of spiritual song and music is being restored to the Church. Actually it is the voice of prophecy. We read, therefore, “Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals...,” Chron. 25:1. No doubt there was usually prophetic singing accompanied by the musical instruments; and together it formed this great prophetic orchestra and choir. And because it is the voice of prophecy, that is why there is a work of deliverance wrought when songs are sung in the Spirit, or when instruments of music are played in the Spirit.

David, you will recall, drove the evil spirit away from Saul, as he played upon the harp. It is the voice of God; and it is a ministry, as it was in the case of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun. Asaph means Gatherer; Heman means Faithful: and Jeduthun means Choir of Praise. What a wonderful description of what is generally called the Heavenly Choir. “The Choir of Praise!” Sung by those who are “Faithful” in their ministry; and to “Gather” the saints together in the unity of the Spirit. It is not difficult, then, for us to understand why the Choir of Praise has been restored to the Church. The Temple service is being restored. The saints are singing “by course” – that is, alternately in prophecy one to one another, because once again the Lord’s temple is being restored.” ( An excerpt from “Worship His Majesty” by Jack Hayford)

Ministry is a life of Sacrifice

In the life of the world-earthly sacrifice is made, to work a job and make a living so that one may lead and live a descent life for himself and his family. So is the case regarding our heavenly life and ministry; sacrifice is required. The sacrifice being our time that we would spend doing other things and being with other people. But the day will come when the natural life will pass away. And if there was nothing really stored in the spiritual besides going to church, then there will not be that true spiritual nature that is required to be close to the Father in eternity or spiritual works laid up in which the Lord desires to reward us.

This ministry requires time alone in the presence of God ministering unto Him because we love Him; and time set apart spent specifically with a prophetic team in worship outside of a service, so the group can learn to flow together prophetically on instruments and song by the unction of the Holy Spirit. Only when we become skillful before Him in song and instrument with a yearning for His presence that we can obtain to the level or place in the Spirit that the Spirit of God is released to move in our lives and our midst. Take heed and give all to this great ministry. The Holy Spirit will use Prophetic praise and worship in a profound way to open the heavens in the last days that His purposes may be fulfilled.

And It Shall Come to Pass!

Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth. For He shall not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak. And He will shew you things to com, John 16:13.

The nature of the spoken prophetic word is that it is to “come to pass.” It is not enough for the word to be spoken or sung prophetically. That word has to “come to pass.” The sung or spoken word is just half of the divine process of the wisdom of God to manifest the fullness of Christ in His Body. In this Day of the Lord, He has promised to do “a new thing, for which He says now it shall spring (come) forth,” Isaiah 43: 19. This springing or cometh forth is the manifestation of the prophetic word in our very lives and midst; even as it is being sung or spoken. For those who have ears to hear, let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church, Rev. 2:29. We are speaking of a spontaneous, quickening manifestation of the “word of prophec"y in this case in song, but through a corporate people as our voice is lifted up in praise and the attitude of worship to our God. His glorious voice shall be heard in the heavenlies toward principalities and powers and in the earth to His people that the divine order and will of His kingdom is manifested in the earth in and through a people.

Isaiah 30: 30-32 states, “And the Lord shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering and tempest, and hailstone. And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the Lord shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets (tambourines) and harps or (string instruments). And in battles of shaking will he fight with it.” When we first approach the throne of God in song there is a spiritual warfare with principalities and powers who are stationed in the second heaven as in the experience with Daniel with the Prince of Persia, where he continued to pray that the answer which he sought would come to him. We are to continue to sing until there is manifestation of the prophetic word that we are singing. God's divine will and need is to manifest Himself in a people in this day so that His eternal purposes will come forth.

Then there is our great need for the fullness of Him in the day that we are living in. He has chosen to use this “way” of prophetic praise and worship intercession to meet both needs. Bringing forth the fullness of His Spirit in the lives of those whom will seek Him in this way. The call of the Church in this day that will bring the manifestation Christ within and through the believer in singing what is heard in the Spirit until it is manifested in midst of the gathering of a hungry and thirsty people. This “called” prophetic team or choir will lead God’s people through the ministry of prophetic song into that place in the heavenlies that His glorious voice can be heard. In our hearing of His voice there will be spontaneous manifestation in our lives of what He is speaking as we gather. This is the desire of the Father in our day. We say “yes” Lord, so be it.
